What Makes Our Program Different?
Thumbs Up targets the whole family, not just the child. Parents and siblings are supported throughout their children's time in the program. Parents must sign a contract to support their child in the home AND in the school.
Home visitations are required for all parents. A licensed social worker and the Program Director visit every home several times a year. A variety of resources provided include:

- Parent workshops, including training;
- Limited transportation and appointments and interviews;
- Director-accompanied parental visits to school conferences and meetings;
- Emergency food and clothing for children;
- Bunk bed mattress for children after the hurricane;
Parent Successes:
A young mother completed her G.E.D. and qualified for a higher-paying job at the local hospital, giving up her fast food job. Thumbs Up raised funds to help her son, who was disabled.
Another young woman received help from Thumbs Up completed her program at Voc-Ed Rehab and secured a job at Walgreens.
A mother met with Thumbs Up's Director to discuss her son's troublesome behaviors at school, and discovered he might have a hearing impairment. A specialist confirmed this, and an operation improved the child's hearing to 90% accuracy.
18 parents received certification in Basic Child CPR from the local fire department.
Working with Thumbs Up, another mother agreed to participate in home visits to help her son who was under a court order. She will also attend therapeutic sessions with her daughter, who is dyslexic.
A mother asked Thumbs Up to help her to successfully purchase a mobile home. We were able to give her guidance in this area, which provided a more stable home environment for the student.
