We are pleased to inform you that all schools will close for SPRING BREAK from APRIL 9-13TH. Students will return to classes on Monday, April 16th.
The year has gone by so quickly and I have appreciated the individual time and attention you have given to the children, contributions of equipment and books, delicious home cooked meals, and your very generous monetary donations during our campaign.
We were extremely happy to welcome several new volunteers this year; and now our hearts are filled with sadness to say “goodbye” to wonderful friends like Jerri & Larry Meisner and Cathy & Tom Alexander who will be moving away.
We wish you and your loved ones a blessed and peace-filled Easter!

The DIC Membership Committee will host a “Get Involved!” Expo on Tuesday, February 27, in the Carolina Ballroom from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The Expo will be an opportunity for Dataw residents to visit booths for dozens of island clubs and local volunteer organizations to become informed about their activities and meet members in an informal atmosphere. As you know, there are many new resident members of Dataw; and this will be an opportunity for them to become well informed about the many choices available to them to volunteer their time and talents. It is also a chance for our long-term resident members to discover something new to join.
Participating organizations will have a table in the Carolina Ballroom where materials can be displayed and your representative(s) can be available to greet residents and answer questions.
Obviously, there is no charge to clubs to participate, and there is no charge for residents to attend.

December has been a short, but busy month. We are grateful! Thank you to all who gave to our 2017 Giving Day & Annual Appeal (ending Dec. 31st) ; as well as to those who attended the December Benefit Car Show at Habersham. The children and several parents were also invited to attend a Christmas musical program and dinner this past Friday at Wesley United Methodist Church of Beaufort (thank you Mr. Alick Lewis & friends). Blessings continue each year when George & Linda Jones share the Christmas spirit by donating turkey food baskets to all Thumbs Up families.
Let’s not forget the wonderful congregation at St. Peter’s Catholic Church of Beaufort who showered the children with bag loads of Christmas gifts from their Angel Tree to make the season brighter. We also have lots of love for the Callawassie tutors who donated the gift that never stops giving—BOOKS FOR EVERY CHILD! Thank you to the good folks at the new Lady’s Island Walmart that donated more than 600 individual school supplies to the Thumbs Up children on Saturday! We plan to share with CAPA friends and our students’ schools. It’s all good … and isn’t that why we are here?
Thumbs Up will be open on Dec. 18-19th, last day, but no tutors will be expected to attend.
Thank you and have a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year!
